Might have to rip out my dash...

When i first got the car, i had no interior lights. Found out why. It was because there was no fuse in the box for it...So i put a 10A in it (like it called for) and it instantly popped...Well i let it go for a very long time, and tried again a few months ago. Popped again so i figured there was a short somewhere. For the hell of it, i put a 30A in it. Didn't pop...Lights were working, garage door opener worked, power antenna worked, security worked, door chime, etc...Well i noticed my dash starting to smoke so i shut the car off and took the damn fuse out...Now when i try putting a 10A in, it doesn't pop, but when i start the car, it runs fine until i shut it off and restart it. Then i get a "check engine light" until i take the fuse out. Then the light goes off. I don't get it? Also, when the 10A is in, only the rear view mirror lights and power antenna work. Garage door opener, security, under-dash lights and door chime don't work anymore so i figured i probably fried the lines to all those Anyway I'm getting really sick of not having interior lights. Is it necessary to take out my entire dash to fix this problem? I'm probably going to need to re-wire everything that this fuse controls. If anyone is wondering, the fuse is right next to the radio fuse. Is it even possible to fix this problem and have it working like it should again? Also, is there anything i should know before i rip out my dash? Thanks for any help.

Re: Might have to rip out my dash...

You probably could have fixed it more easily before you put that 30a fuse in Now there is obviously a new short in the harness, have fun finding that! The original problem could have been as simple as a light fixture shorting out, etc. And taking the dash off can be quite the project. MAke sure you fix whatever else you hosed in there that is causing the CEL, it could be affecting something much more important than your garage door opener
