This is a simple how to build a roll cage. This cage is made to fit my Impala.
To build a roll cage you need: * Styrene rods * Knife * Pensile * Ruler * Tape * Paper ![]() And it's never bad to have some references. This is the reference I used. ![]() ![]() This cage was made in 1 3/4" chrome moly. So I took the closest rod I had, 1,5 mm. 1. Measuring Let’s start of with making measurements. For me it was easy. I measured the with of the roof at the impala just to see how wide it could be at a maximum. It was about 50mm. ![]() The with of the cage needed to bee 61mm other wise I must squeeze it in place. I also draw the side supports. ![]() When I am done with that I draw another one that looks the same. And cut it out. ![]() Then I test the paper cage in the car, to see how it will fit. ![]() 2. Bending I start with taping the styrene rood on to the paper. ![]() And then I start to bend the rood as close to the drawing as possible. ![]() After that I remove the tape. And test the cage in the body (no picture). ¨I do the same with the rear supports and this is how it looks with one of the rear supports. ![]() The last step is to glue the cage to getter. ![]() ![]() I am going to chrome the cage later on and put on some soft material on it so it will look like this. ![]() I got the reference from ![]() I hope this will be to help fore some one.

Hi,
a well done tut. Don´t you have problems that the rods want back to their originate position? I think the hardest thing to do is the cage-part starting at the b-post area along the drivers side window - a-post - front-window - dashboard. Getting both sides equal is a mere try and error. Micha |

Great tutorial! Who would've thought of drawing it on paper first, then creating the parts.
