It will do wonders for your take off. On the highway though it's going to suck up your gas.

Yeah lower gears on the highway reduce your miles per gallon. If you don't do a whole lot of highway driving, lower gears aren't bad. If you're on the highway a whole lot, I'd suggest something around 3.27s.

First off what kind of driving do you do in your v6? If this car is nothing but for pure joy, I say put 4.10s in it. You'll get crappy gas milage and you'll have to go super slow on the highway but you'll tear up the streets on saturday night.

Re: 3.73 gears in v6

well its my everyday driver besides my work truck. i travel with it and go places. i wish i could say its just a joy ride car. if that was the case, i would have a GT. 4.10 i heard you need to get a posi unit put in a few other things to your car this way it works with it. i forget what they were. does anyone know what the stock gears are in a v6?

Re: 3.73 gears in v6

3:43's or 3:73's is what I would go, personally having that I have ran 3:27's, 3:43's, 3:55's(8.8 inch rear end) 3:73's, 3:90's and 4:10's... I would go with 4:10's with a auto and 3:73's for a stick. I would also get a aluminum driveshaft and aluminum flywheel.

ALso, get T-loc installed, and a rear sway bar.

Re: 3.73 gears in v6

i have an auto. i thought that it was different and that the 410 was with a stick, and 373 for auto. how much would it be to get a Trac-loc installed. i really never looked into that.

Posi-Traction is the Chevy term for Traction Lock.

What is does is allows both rear wheels to spin at the same rate. It litterly locks both wheels together. that's how you get those two fat dark lines when peeling out. All the V6's come with a open differential, which means that all of your power is going to one wheel. That's why when you do a burn out, only one tire leaves a mark.

Even for the stock gear ratio in back, I would reccomend T-loc.

4:10's for auto's since the auto "slips" in each gear. the 5 speed's don't slip.

As far as the price for the T-loc, I bought mine for $140 and the 3:73's for $130. You have to shop around because prices for each item can get as high as $200 from certain vendors. As far as installation, I know how to do gears, so I did it myself. But what I have been seeing is anywhere from $200~$300 to install it all.

How difficult is the installation of a T- Loc and what are the stock gear ratios for a V6 rear diff?
