Thumbs up took my t bird out in the snow today!

Man the snow here is crazy, I live in ohio and we have already got about a foot of snow and its still snowing. I took my car out in it and I had a blast. of course I had to drive slow in the main streets but where there wasnt a lot of trafic the snow was piled high and it was like off roading, I had to pump the gas to get through it while sliding sideways, and all that. lol. Plus I like givin it a little gas in a parking lot and breaking loose and turning sideways at 5 mph.. lol man its fun. I cant wait till I can find a totally desolate parking lot thats frozen over and just go nuts! all this snow makes me wanna get a 4x4 so I can do some REAL off roading.

Lol rick, yeah it snowed like 3 inches a couple days ago here on LI, nassau county, and it was plenty to break the cars ass loose. I like late at night, when there is no traffic *no one to get hurt except me* and you take a sharp right and punch the gas and get into a good snow drift.

Re: took my t bird out in the snow today!

Ive taken out a few curbs in my time, and ive lost control, yes true, but am I crazy? no. If I was crazy then I would have lost control and hit people. I drive like that late at night, or on empty roads, empty lots, and I know if Im pushing my limits. Ive never lost control when I felt confident in what I was doing. The times when I have lost control, I knew I was taking a risk, so I made sure it was safe first... call me crazy if you want, but it only tells me that you are less confident in your driving abilities, and judgement than I am of my own. My mom thinks im crazy when when I goose it to 2000 RPMs just to break the ass end loose in an empty parking lot... the reason is because she doesnt know how to drive like that, so she doesnt know the risk.. I've had many opportunities to press my luck safely, and I know when Im pushing it. Im not saying this because I took offense to you calling me crazy... I didnt take offense. It doesnt bother me, but you should know that some people use good judgement even while doing crazy things. I was having fun, at no expense to anyone.

Re: took my t bird out in the snow today!

hey, naw. I wasnt at all sour about it, and I can understand about growing out of it, because ive grown out of many things I thought I never would. I wasnt questioning your driving abilities, I know there are much better drivers out there than me, I just feel that I have fun with good judgement. As far as growing out of that goes, I dont think I'll "grow out of it", but maybe when Im a little older, and have a kid, and family and all that, I wouldnt really want people to see me going nuts on an iced lot, but I'd still want to do it, and I probably would too, as long as my kid isnt in the car, and as long as its no threat to anybody, myself included.

Re: took my t bird out in the snow today!

I'm 33 and still get the urge to do those things. Left work on Tuesday night and the parking lot just had a dusting of snow on it so I proceded to do 2 360's as I was leaving. It had snowed a lot more closer to my house and driving sideways down the city block with the back tires spinning and some countersteering was the next batch of fun. I don't do that often but every now and then I gotta let loose. On the other hand, there are some 25mph curves in town that I frequently take at 65-70 and never leave my lane. It's 5am and no one else on the road. NOT something I do with traffic around. I love to drive, not just operate a motor vehicle, DRIVE.

Having good judgement is the ability to NOT "take out a few curbs".

Re: took my t bird out in the snow today!

The idea behind it is that Ive ONLY taken out curbs because I dont drive dangerous when there are other people around. The worst thing that could happen, is me taking out a curb. No biggie. You gotta learn some time. I refuse to drive within all traffic laws every day for the rest of my life. I would die of boredom. The biggest thrill Ive got in my life, is driving my car. I love it. Like flewthecoupe said, sometimes you want to do more than just operate your personal motor vehicle. Human instinct wants an adrenaline rush, and I march to that drum. So what if I push the envelope... I calculate my risk before I go nuts. I keep it cool when need be, which is why I believe I have good judgement.

oh yea, rain does work too, but its not near as fun as a frozen parking lot. Or as easy on the tires.

If you really want an adrenaline rush and think your judgement is that good then go to an autocross event and and actually race.

Re: took my t bird out in the snow today!

my car cant handle that. Ive done too much hot rodding in it. Its my first car, so I think Im lucky its held up as well as it has. Ive driven it like a nascar way too much. Now I dont drive so crazy all the time... just every once in a while. I gotta take care of my baby. (my car is my baby)
