97 s10 blazer wont shift out of park

Hello.I can not get my 1997 s10 blazer to shift from park.the engine runs fine.All the fuses are good.I have working brake lights when I hit the brake pedal.It's as if I am not engaging the brake to let me shift into gear.But believe me I am...Thanks for any help.Doug

you might have a bad brake light switch. the brake light switch releases the shifter lock mechanism.

Yip, that switch has to be defective.
