I desperatly want a Wrangler but I still have questions I do not know the answer too. I am hoping someone will be able to answer them. I would appreciate any and all help.

1. Are there any years from 96-05 that I should stay away from due to excessive problems.

2.What is the difference between the various types of wranglers. I know I can find the answer on the web site but I would like to know from someone other than the manufactuer to the sales man.

3. How well will they tow a trailer with say a dirt bike on it?

1997 was the first year for the new design, and there were some issues; so the other years might be a better choice, although I didn't have any problems with my 97.

96 and down, you'll have leaf springs front and rear. A rougher ride on the highway. These are the Wranglers that have square headlights.

97 and up have coil springs all around, smoother ride on highway and better performance off road, but a little harder to lift.

Starting in 04, the interior was redesigned, with a bit more seat travel, and different roll bar covers (plastic inserts) and an easier to remove rear seat.

As fas as towing, stock Wranglers (this is '04 stats) are rated at 1000 pounds, and if properly equipped (6cyl and axle ratios) can tow 2000. So as long as your trailer is fairly light you should be ok.

Definitely get the 6 cylinder, as you'll want the power on the highway (all situations, really). The 4 works fine, but it's a little slow and offroading you'll need 4Lo alot.

I'm on my second '97 and I love it. My first was a 4cyl; couldn't understand why you'd want a 4.0L engine in Jeep...till now! My current Sahara has the 4.0L and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Mileage is not much worse, but the power response are so much better.

Get the 4.0L.

92 4.0 L with fuel injection and 5 sp transmission. 32" tires. Lots of power and lots of gas. 13 -14 mpg in the summer on the highway. I don't even think about warming it up before I go anywhere in the winter. Again, love the power, hate the gas milage. But, what are ya gonna do? gotta have my Jeep

Of course if you're buying new and want more towing capacity, an 05 Unlimited is rated to tow 3500 pounds.
