01 Elantra GT Emergency Break problems

Hey guys,

I am having a problem with my emergency break and unsetting it. I called the dealer and they said that if it is below freezing, this can happen.

I have never had this happen to any of my other cars. Sure enough, when it gets really cold, like today, and if the emergency break is on, it will not unset.

Is what the dealer says true?? Or do I need to replace something that is sticking?

i'm not sure about frezzing...i have a 2003 VE, and its fine, we went doing to -29oC and it still works...but check with a mechanic....or the owners manual

This is a typical condition with ebrakes and freezing weather I have been advised in the past not to use your ebrake in freezing weather to avoid this problem, more common on rear drums but still likely with rear discs though

I used to have this problem on my Nissan...the emergency brake cable sometimes runs under the car, or ends up on the outside of the car by the time it gets to the rear. Little water or moisture on the cable, down goes the temp and boom..frozen solid. I also have an 01 Elantra and I don't have this problem, no yet anyway but it has happened to me in the past. I'm not sure on this one but maybe someone else can confirm or deny...isn't there something they can do, maybe coat the cable and it's various workins in grease to get rid of the moisture and keep it out? Seems with all this technology we have now, we'd be able to stop a little freezing...

After posting this, I have heard from more sources that this happens. Just odd, because it has never happend on any of my former cars, and this was the first time I have experienced it.
