Fuel level sending unit replacement
I need to change the fuel level sending unit in my S-10 extended cab. I've heard two schools of thought:
1. Drop the tank and replace (Hayne's recommended way) or 2. Disconnect filler tube and pull the truck bed off. (Mechanic at local repair shop said that's the way he does it.) Any thoughts as to which way is the better way to go? |

Re: Fuel level sending unit replacement
6 or 8 bolts, and the bed rises.
I can't say for certan but there is a pretty good chance that you don't even have to remove the filler tube, just tip the bed from the other side. And if you do have to remove the bed don't forget to disconect the wires too |

Re: Fuel level sending unit replacement
I also need to replace the fuel level sensor on my '99 Sonoma. After talking to a few mechanic friends and reading posts on this forum about this subject, it does sound easier to remove (or just lift one side) the bed rather than dropping the tank.
Do you, or anyone else, know if there are any other parts, such as a seal or gasket, that also needs to be replaced with a fuel pump assembly replacement? Thanks! |

Re: Fuel level sending unit replacement
there is a rubber o-ring that probably comes with the sending unit, I'd also replace the retaining ring at the same time... it might be included with the kit but they often aren't

Re: Fuel level sending unit replacement
The bed would be the easier choice.

Re: Fuel level sending unit replacement
I think it's going to be lifting the bed. Thanks for the input guys. Have a Merry Christmas!
