Picking on small fry, 3000GT VS. Mazda 3

Before anyone jumps on to flame me, he asked for it. I would never race a lower class car but he pushed it.

It was around 8:30 p.m. on a comercial strip, four lanes each way, smooth surface, low traffic and a light at every 300 yrds.
I was driving home after dinning out with my beloved wife when I see some little red hatch back up ahead swirving in and out of lanes like a baddass. there was no one else so he wassnt racing. I figured no point, its probably a Focus or a Golf and I got a bent rim so why push it.

I instantly forgot about it and kept conversing with my wife. about six blocks later the light turns red and I stop first at the line. I hear someone call out "hey" "HEY", I look over and its him, the red hatch. its a new Mazda 3 with the 2.3 badge on the side. the kid inside must be around 19 and dressed like a little thug P.Diddy uniform.
"hey is that a turbo" he asks.
"No" "Base model" I reply
"AWWWWW What a shame!"
My wife leans over, "what did you just say?"
"I SAID WHAT A SHAME" he shouts out.
well normally I'd pull him out and snap his neck but hey, tis the season!
so I yell back to him "as soon as the light goes green I'll show you shame punk"
he gets ready to and smirks. the light goes green and I let him jump the lead, after all I know I got around 70 more hp then him. right as my nose is to his rear door I smash 1st. my wheels break traction and I'm just sitting thier spining all through first, I get to 5500 rpms and throw in second, By now he has a full car lead on me and I'm just barely at the other side of the intersection, the wheels bite down and I match him at about 5000 rpms, I stay with him nose to nose up to the top of my gear and just before I press in the clutch I'm already ahead of him by a couple of feet. Third grabs hard and I pull ahead, one car, two cars, three cars, fourth and I'm like a good 5or 6 cars ahead by 4000 rpms, I shut it down. "I think he gave up" says my wife. well then lets tease him!
I lower the window and motion him with my hand to catch up and pass me. he goes for the old flyby, right as he os comming up on me doing like 75-80 I drop it back into third and match him again, I out run him in third to about a two car lead and then shift into fourth. I put like 5 cars on him by the time I get it up to 6000 rpms. he was tottlay destroyed. the light up ahead turns red and we stop side by side.

"hey what do you have in that car" he asks.
"not much, just intake and exhaust, stock internals"
"how big is that motor"
"Its a 3.0 v6"
"Oh no wonder, I only have a 2.3 four cyl"
my wife leans over "AWWWWWWWWWWW WHAT A SHAME"

I'll say...if I woulda raced anyone with ANY of my girlfriends in the car, they would have been screaming at me the whole time, and then slapped me when I was done.

Base models are reasonably quick....222 hp stock I believe, for the 3000GT SL.

Yeah, I run Mid to low 15's my best is 15.3 but that was before the mods. and yeah the Base and SL are same power, the SL has better suspension and leather and some other comforts like digital AC and stuff. oh yeah and my wife races too, she used to have a Talon but now we bought a Starion and she's building up the motor slowly.

Sounds like BS to me, two of my best friends have a 2004 SE-R and a 2003 SE-R V-spec and I always put at least 3 cars on them. I dont know about 0-60 or 30-65 but any race that goes up to 60 or even 65 really cant be called a "race". thats more like getting out of my driveway really fast! no offense chief I just dont think a stock Sentra can hang with a stock 3000GT.
now I will admit they get better times than me at the autoX!

Edit:
just noticed I made a mistake, there is a base model 3000GT that was produced after 95. it was a SOHC v6 with 160 hp. I've never driven one but I can see how your 180hp 2.5 can out accelerate it!
(insert foot in mouth).

If the girl doesn't like racing, then she's just slowing your car down!
Either that, or make your car faster so it knocks the wind out of her when you gun it so she can't scream...

whoa i guess your a hardcore mitsu guy. anyways i think thats pretty sweet how your wife is building a Starion. most girls now thinks its an old boxy ugly 80's car. but the starion is sweeet. probrably the best looking japanese sport's car of hte 80's. nice flared fenders, front mount intercooler, staggered wheel setup.
