just inherited an '86 8v

anyone have any cost-effective ideas to up the power and torque? I can't find any companies that still tune the old GTi. Thanks

Super gluing a nickel or quarter to the weight on the air flow meter arm under air filter housing was a very cost-effective trick. Most others still cost $.

polish and port, cam, bigger valves (as long as the ports don't shadow them) general gas flow on inlet and throttle body or changing to individual throttle bodies, 4-2-1 manifold, better exhaust (don't go too big or you'll loose low end torque and drivability), etc...
