no remote, now no start

Hi, Have a 98 Silhoutte with no remote. Now, it either does not start or tries and shuts off. It give 3 chimes at times in accessory position. REALLY need help, it cold up here and want to take the kids for Christmas trip. Thanks in advance. Had dealer give me a new key with no luck too.

When you say does not start, does it run then shut off or does it just crank and then eventually stops? If it cranks then its not the key.

As a first, look at the battery and connections, clean them up if corroded.

Checked battery, car starts then shuts off, the key won't turn on any electrical and lights go off interior and car won't start for over an hour or more, then same thing happens again.

This sounds like it may be the ignition switch or if your key has a microchip in it then something is screwed up with that part of the security system. Without air bags probably could DIY, but I wouldn't want to attempt tearing apart the steering wheel to get at it for fear of compromising the air bag system. This is only an educated guess. Since the car does start, but what wants me to say ingintion switch system is that you lose power to all accessories as well. If you can get it to a qualified shop with experience in GM electronics, this would be your best way. Keep us posted on your outcome, this is a real strange one.
