My 2000 GLS automatic has a fairly loud growling sound when accellerating, sounds like it is the intake. Is this a normal noise, or something that should be investigated?

If you have a VR6, they do make that kinda noise when accellerating. It might also be the air change over valve in the intake.

Re: intake noise (growl)
It has a 2.0 engine, and the only thing about the engine that isn't stock is the foam airfilter. It sounded the same before I put the airfilter on it. It is low, throaty sound.

To answer your question, No thats not a normal sound from a 2.0L unless you have aftermarket intake. but if its not affecting gas mileage then I wouldnt worry!

Re: intake noise (growl)
No, I am getting around 29-30 MPG highway, so it isn't hurting the mileage.
