thanks for not helping...you guys are the best
so i put up a very SIMPLE message awhile ago asking for help with my jetta radio, and no one even had the courtesy to write me a short message to help out. anyway, hopefully i'll get some help this time. my questions are as follows. thanks for your help.
Hi, I have a 1998 Jetta GLS (produced 9/97, if that helps at all), and I am trying to install a JVC 12 disc CD changer. I have a few questions, if anybody could help me out: 1. Is it possible to install this unit in my Jetta w/o encountering serious problems? If so, how difficult is the installation? 2. If you think that a non-professional can install this CD changer (I watched someone put the unit in my Jeep, and I was able to remove it from my Jeep w/o any problems today), how do I go about removing the radio and making the connections between the RF modulator and the wires that lead into the radio? 3. Is there any possible way to install the RF modulator w/o losing power to the radio? After seeing all the postings in this forum, I really don't want to have to deal with the radio code business (I've had the car 6 years--no way do I still have the code!)? Anyway, please respond here if you can, or, you can send me an email if you like ([email protected]). Thanks so much for your help--I really need it! |

Re: thanks for not helping...you guys are the best
I don't do much with aftermarket radios. If it's a simple FM modulator type I didn't think there was a connection to the radio. I thought you just tuned the stock radio to a certain FM station. Usually those units came with a seperate controller that you would mount inside the car & wouldn't need the stock radio as the controller. Did it have a wire that just goes in line to the antenna? You can pop the radio out and as long as you don't unplug the electrical wiring it will keep it's code. Pulling the antenna wire won't cause any problems. Otherwise you better have the SAFE code, hopefully you got it with the car's owner's manual.

Re: thanks for not helping...you guys are the best
hey, thanks for responding to my message. i appreciate someone taking the time to try to help.
the issue isn't with using the radio as a controller. rather, i just need to know how to connect the 3 wires from the RF modulator: power, memory backup from the battery, and grounding. the other connections should be easy. any thoughts? thanks again. |

Re: thanks for not helping...you guys are the best
It depends on where you are locating the unit. Probably at the fuse block is the best location, use a simple test light to find what you need.

Circuit city makes "pre-made" harness that attaches into aftermarket radio and then into your stock harness so no wire cutting or splicing is needed! =)
