Airbag OBD Codes

I bought and repaired a 2000 oldsmobile intrigue about 2 years ago but I never got the chance to shut off the airbag light. I replaced both driver side and passenger side airbags but the light is still on. This year I bought a OBD reader for kicks, hooked it up, and I got the following codes;

B0026 - LF/Driver Frontal Deployment Loop (Single Stage or Stage 1) Open
B0051 - Deployment Commanded

I understand the the second read out cause the airbags were deployed in the accident. The first code has me a lil shooken up. I'm assuming I might have to replace the airbag module but I'm not sure and I don't want to spend the money to find out .... any advice?

Re: Airbag OBD Codes

DTC B0022, B0024, B0026, B0042, B0043, or B0044
Left Front/Driver Frontal Deployment Loop (Stage 1) Circuit

DTC B0051
Deployment Commanded

DTC B0053
Deployment Commanded with Loop Malfunctions Present

i have never worked with air bags before, but i would guess that the B0026 means there is a problem with the driver side air bag that would prevent it from deploying. and the fact its B0051 not B0053 means this happened after the accident. i would have the airbag tested by a professionial shop or dealership.

i am going to try to get more info on this code tomarrow at school if i can( i have access to ALLDATA there)

did you buy a GM Tech2 scantool?

Re: Airbag OBD Codes

No, I picked up a genisys by OTC. It's got a post collision airbag test on it, but it really didn't help either. I'll keep messing with the car, if you find anymore info its appreciated.

Re: Airbag OBD Codes

abridged version

circuit discription - when the ignition is frist turned on, the SDM module runs several tests, two of the tests are "deployment loop voltage out of range test" then "deployment loop resistance measurement test". if the voltage test does not pass(short to voltage), the resistance test will not be performed.

conditions to set the DTC-
deployment loop voltage out of range test - driver frontal deployment loop resistance is at least 6 ohms for 300 milliseconds

deployment loop voltage resistance measurement test - driver frontal deployment loop resistance is more than 4.8 ohms for 300 milliseconds

diagnostic aids - inspect all wires/connections for damage, corrosion, loose connections, ect. there is a diagnostic chart but basicly every step uses some special tool or connection or something. also only use a digital multimeter for testing, a analog/needle type may damage the SDM module and/or the airbag.
