fuel gauge

I don't know if it's normal, or if it's time to replace the fuel pump and/or filter, but on my '96, whenever I accelerate I notice the fuel gauge goes up towards full, and whenever i decelerate, it goes back down to where it was before... It's like the gauge only reads an accurate reading when there is pressure in the lines. It can't be the fact that the fuel itself is moving around in the tank because if i'm idling it does it too when I rev it up. It did a similar thing on my '95 monte carlo too... maybe it's a chevy thing? perhaps it's something i should be worried about?

That's like early 70's problems. Some guages are ran now with floats or wieght plates. Your guages are all controlled electronically and that sounds like a side effect of a electrical malfunction somewhere.

Your gauge should have always done that, it has to do with the position of the float in the tank. You accelerate and the gas is pushed to the back of the tank and the float sinks...reads less gas. You decelerate and the gas moves to the front of the tank and the float rises.
