2000+ elcipse or 94 and up mustang??

K here's the thing i'm turning 16 soon and want to buy a car that i can mod and make fast later on but gets good gas milage for now. my best friends dad has a 1998 SLT cobra mustang(i think the SLT part is rightthat is supercharged and stuff. it has 450hp. without nitros and like five something with. so i'm contomplating between the mustang and the 2000+ eclipse. if i went with the eclipse what kind of mods and how much money would i be looking at to have a car thats almost that fast. also i was wondering on how well the back end of the eclipse slids around. the one in 2 fast 2 furious looked like it could powerslide pretty good but i dunno. thanx with and info u have it will be very aprecaited.

Re: 2000+ racing a 1998 cobra mustand??

ok first and foremost, 2 fast 2 furious is a movie. 90% of everything in the movie is fake. take that movie and the first fast and the furious, and throw them in the trash. you will learn nothing from watching those movies. anything that you thought you might have learned, forget it b/c its wrong. you have alot to learn my friend. about the mustang, i think its an SVT cobra mustang. or maybe the SVT mustangs started in '99 with the different body style. the 5 something probably means 5.0. now on to the eclipse. to get an eclipse even close to 450hp, you would have to drop atleast $10,000-$15000 or maybe even more. hope that answers your question

Ok thanks. When i said "five something" i was meaning that it had like 500 and something hp with nitros. the mustang is a 1998 SVT cobra. with a kenny bel supercharger, bassani exhaust, venom nitros system(with a venom computer) and bbk headers. now i know the eclipse is a FWD but can u get it to slide around on dry pavment or not really?

Re: 2000+ racing a 1998 cobra mustand??

Sure you can snatch up the parking brake up all day long until you burn it out. But if your 16 and are concerned with sliding the back end around dont worry youll probably wreck it before you burn out the brake. Also since your not 16 yet and are talking about getting a car like this im assuming your parents are going to pay for it. Get something cheap to start off with. Get a 5th gen civic or something that you wont kill yourself in. Your parents might respect that, mine did and they helped me out when i wanted to get a new car.

Re: 2000+ racing a 1998 cobra mustand??

man you aren't even driving on your own yet... DO not start yourself out with an amazingly fast car until you KNOW you can handle that type of power on your own. Don't think I don't know how you feel because I'm 16 and have the same dream but will only fully pursue it when I know I can handle the power.

P.S. - The eclipse gt isn't nearly as fast as that crazy movie makes it out to be.

id say get the mustang for amer muscle. ud b doing around the 10 sec in the 1/4 mile with 450-500 hp. hell ill trade ur friends dad my 03 eclipse gt for a cobra cause of the speed diff. but anyway i do plan on adding a supercharger to my eclipse which should bump up the HP to 335-340 which is good enough 4 me

Re: 2000+ racing a 1998 cobra mustand??

Go for the mustang if you wanna car to last for three months than have the tranny, suspension, and your ass, to go from underneath of ya... Any car can be a fast car, but some cost a hell of a lot more money to get fast, Mustang would be easier to get goin, but the 3g may be a bit more dependable, and until the aftermarket looks a little more promising... keep dreaming...

If you want to go fast, skip the 2000+ Eclipse.

A first car should be mild though, so an Eclipse might be right up your alley.

Re: Re: 2000+ racing a 1998 cobra mustand??

thanks for all theinfo guys. yea i don't plan on haveing a 450 hp for my first car either it's just that this is the car that i'm going to have to like 4-5 years and while i'm a wyotec for schooling for 9 months. so i want to to be something that will be fast then 2. i really like the eclipse styling plus i seen a stage 3 supercharger kit from rip racing i think it is that ups it to like 425hp. it's like almost $6000 but i think it would be worth it after i have the car for like 2-3 years.

I frankly don't ever see a 2000 eclipse beating a 500 hp mustang in streetable form.
