98 civic speed limiter

my friend and i were just testin out his 98 civic and we got to around 105 mph and couldnt get it any faster. we were only around 4-5k rpm and i was wondering what are the options he has for removing this limit?

I've had mine up to 115 a couple of times (on the safty of a track.. never go that fast on a normal road)... and I've got a 98 EX coupe...
I'll admit, it takes a little time to get up that fast, because the faster you go in the higher gears the less pull the engine has to speed up... if you're going up hill or the wind is blowing against you that might make it difficult to go faster then 105...
Honda's weren't really designed to go that fast in the first place anyways.

fastest ive gotten was iirc, 108MPH...and that was on the Moorsville-Charlotte Speedway, in NC..... aka interstate 77 :-D yes, only do those unsafe speeds on the track....
that was in my 92CX....
might've been 109, but i know it wasnt more than 110.
i drive the majority of the way home from charlotte to NY going 90-100....best "lap time" was 8 hours from charlotte to NY, and that was with a full car

ive grown outta that tho......i was young and dumb....coulda killed myself doin that. (no, i didnt drive like a complete idiot, i had respect for others on the road...i'd slow down, give them room/priority, etc.)

And then both of you guys w/ you sewing maching powered cars get passed by a moped w/ a 5hp Engine and he goes on to put 5 car lengths on you. Racing an EX vs a DX is like a 10 speed bike vs a golden retriever.

unless you have an automatic you dont have any speed limiter. the only thing holding you from going faster is power vs arodynamics and mass. the car simply doesnt have enough power to push it forward any faster. personally i have hit the low 140's redlined in 5th gear in the lude, the only thing holding it back from hitting 150's is the gearing. after that arodynamics and power vs mass would kill it. like a porsche 911 twin turbo cant break the 212mph mark simply because there just isnt enough umph at that speed to propell the car against the atmosphere and more.

Hmmm, 120mph (no not in a honda... and coulda kept going but read on) on the Canada Speedway (uhhhh whatever the hell the damn road is to get back to the US... lol) But ummm yeah DONT ever go that fast, then miss your exit, and slam on the brakes and be forced to ditch into a NO U turn strip thats all rocks because there is a tractor trailer ON YOUR ASS not that im speaking from experience or anything :finger:

Removing the limiter? Its there for a reason... to LIMIT your car. Theres a reason theres a LIMIT on your car, not because Honda wants you to drive under 105, but because your car isnt designed to handle anything more. Drop in a new suspension, new ride height, bigger brakes, motor swap so you can actually go faster in the first place, then look into removing it

you guys must be headed down hill or had a damn stiff tail wind. my car hits 120 and then drops the rpms WAAAAYYYY down. down aroudn 1000 there isn't any play to it either....ithits 120mph and wham...teh motor bogs down...almost like it engages the clutch....i guess it doesn't really bog down, it just slows...
