I think this is something other than wiring, I had a similar problem, and here's my story: Had an original, factory heating/stereo unit that had a non-working tape player. A friend of the family put in a custom faceplate for my car with the heating, but with the hookups for a cd player, then, my car was broken into, and the entire heating/radio assembly was stolen. Bought a new unit from a junkyard, installed it, heat works fine, but radio doesn't. Radio doesn't work for old stereo (the one that's tapeplayer didn't work, but radio did, that wasn't stolen). Took to mechanic, they testd the wiring, fuses, and radios and said that there's power going to the radios but niether works. Now I don't know FIRSTHAND that the one from the junkyard worked before, but I was told that it does, and I KNOW the one I used before works just fine, its been sitting in my backseat since I got the cd player installed. I'm guessing there's some security issue (maybe anti-theft system?) that somehow disables the radios from working after they've been taken out. No idea how to fix this or if its even possible, but I'm grateful that we hae heat in the car at least. Going to call ford customer service and see if I can get any help tomorrow, and I'll post what I find out. Any helpful advice on this topic would be handy in the meantime.
