Question Fuel Pressure Regulator

Anyone know how to test if fuel pressure regulator is going bad on 92 cutlass supreme. 3.1L

Car wants to stall at idle, drives good, but at idle RPMs jack up and drop to almost zero. If I am at a stoplight, I have to put car in nuetral and I have to keep RPMs around 1500. I was told it could be a fuel pressure regulator.

Re: Fuel Pressure Regulator

I had the same problem with my ‘91 Ciera 3300. It would want to stall whenever I was slowing down so I would have to give it gas or it would kill. But it got bad enough so that when I tried to start my car one day, it started up for a split second and then shut off right away. At first i thought it was the FPR too, but I replaced that with no improvement. So I checked the fuel injectors, I stuck an Ohm meter across each of the injectors and sure enough the last one read very low in resistance. So I unpluged the “bad” injector and it started right up. I can’t remember what the resistance is supossed to be on each injector but I do remember that the good ones were all within .2k Ohms of each other and the bad one was much less that the other five.

Re: Fuel Pressure Regulator

pull the vacuum line off the pressure regulator and see if there's any fuel that comes out - if yes, the the pressure regulator is bad.

Re: Fuel Pressure Regulator

Try removing the IAC and clean it and clean the spot where the IAC goes into the throttle body.

The TPS can't be cleaned but just replace it when it is failing.
