Easter weekend on Vancouver Island

On March 30-31st, PNWX is coming to Vancouver Island! I'm busy planning a 'circle' route (wouldn't want any bored 4 wheelers) that'll include two different ferry trips, hours of fun in the snowy/muddy wilderness (we may even see bear/elk), two fantastic lakes and a night of debauchery in Duncan, BC (those of you who've heard of Duncan won't be surprised at that!).

Everyone who shows up gets a souvenir trip book (not containing any illegally photocopied maps, of course :-), an easter treat, and a good ol' Canadian beer, on me! (this is my first trip with the club so I'm trying for a good impression)

All skill levels welcome - we'll be travelling decent logging roads with stops to play in the mud/snow pits & other such nasty obstacles!!! Come on out & enjoy the fun!

I'm there baby and I can't wait! Bring on the mud!

Hayley I'm looking foward to meeting you -- anybody who goes through the trouble of arranging a weekend's worth of offroading for a group of people they haven't met yet has gotta be a great person to go wheeling with. Cheers!

Damn I wish I could go on this trip. I guess I will have to console myself with a trip to Manashtash

Where do you plan on meeting Saturday morning?
What time?
What hotel are you thinking about?
Does anybody have a winch?
Is it OK to wear brown shoes with a blue suit?

I don't think the bears are awake yet but the cougars never sleep.

Greenwood,

I've left the meeting time on the mainland up to the folks coming over... I'd suggested that the group try for a morning ferry, as at this end it'll be about 45mins - 1hr (depending on traffic) to the trails... I'll ask the folks at PNWX what they think. As there are members coming up from the US, I doubt they'll be on the first (7am) ferry!

As for motel, I'm not sure yet -- one of the guys in Vancouver is trying to snag a package-deal for us (probably at the Traveller's Inn, Days Inn.. that type of thing - Duncan isn't renowned for swanky hotels!)

Have you found any good wheelin' yet? My offer of the Squamish district forestry map still stands... as it's a duplicate, I really have no use for it...

Hope you can make the Easter trip -- It'll be a great time!

I'm going to suggest that the Vancouverites book reservations for the 7 AM ferry from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay. The ride is 1 hour, 35 minutes, and we can meet up with the US crew somewhere in Victoria (where their ferry will land, I believe). I don't know Victoria well enough to suggest a meeting place, Hayley we'll need your expertise for this.

By this schedule we can be downtown by 9 AM-ish, once we hear from the US folks on when they think they can get there, we can see how well this would fit together. I realize it will be an early start to the day, but life is short ...
