superchargers

Hi,
Well my last probelms got sorted it turned out i needed an Air Flow Meter, Dizzy cap and Rotor Arm but that's old new now, so does anyone know anything about superchargers, i.e do they work, do they increase bhp or are they more hassell than they are worth ?

Re: superchargers

Dont bother with a supercharger on a 205, go for a turbo instead, much more effective for the engine size,

Superchagers work by running off of a drive belt driven by the crank shaft and can use up to 20% of you cars power just to drive it, they dont suffer from lag like turbo`s do, but run better on big engined cars. They do increase your power and are reliable and effective, but like I said run better on big engined cars where the power loss used to drive them is less noticable. If you want more power, fit an MI16 engine, in the long run it will be cheaper and more reliable than putting a turbo on what is now an "old" car

I have already had an MI16 conversion along with a set of Fast Road Piper cams which is giving me 171bhp but i am looking to touch 190bhp, I would opt for a Turbo if i had the money but they certainly don't come cheap so that's why i thought about the superchargers, do you know if one of those would work ok on my MI16?

Re: superchargers

I`m not sure how well an MI16 engine would cope with being turbo`d or supercharged, I know turboing a regular 8V 1.9 engine will give you over 200bhp.
Superchargers dont come cheap either, ask at peugeoteccos, they should be able to help you but I wouldnt turbo an MI16, its just not worth it, if your only looking for another 20 BHP try these options if you havnt already.

1. Free flow exhaust +5/6 BHP
2. Ram Air kit +1/2 BHP
3. Polish & port the head +8/10 BHP
4. Fuel boost valve (nothing on its own but will aid with other upgrades)
5. Stronger Fuel pump
6. New hogh flow fuel filter (again, no increase in power, but aids getting fuel to the engine
7. New Inlet manifold +5/6 BHP
8. New Exhaust Manifold +4/5 BHP

That helps with the engine but another thing to remember is a better set up car can often outrun a more powerfull car so try fitting upgraded suspension, stiffer torsion bars (rear), better brakes.

Expensive stuff but you can upgrade one at a time instead of blowing all your money in one go.
