Problem stalling

Hello everyone!

I started having a little problem today. I have a 97 S-10 I start the truck start driving, when coming to a stop the headlights dim and the truck dies. If I wait about two minutes the truck will start back up again most of the time right away. I've been told this might be the alternator could anyone confirm this?

Re: Problem stalling

if it's the alternator the headlights wouldn't get any brighter when it re-starts. There is a small chance that one of your battery posts is loose, which would cause it to stall.

I don't know if it's cold where you live, but if it is also try adding 1 or 2 bottles of gas line antifreeze, or buy some methol hydrate from the hardware store (same stuff but cheaper in bigger sizes, probably in the paint thinning department) and add some to your gas tank.

Had the alternator and battery tested, they both seem to be ok made sure the cables were tight. Coming back for the Auto parts store the truck would die when coming to a stop after pressing in the clutch. Any ideas were I should look now...

Battery and Alternator: good

Re: Problem stalling

try the gas line antifreeze then, it can never hurt... plus it's cheap

Re: Problem stalling

You have a '97 that is well known for ignition switch problems. Check your plug under the dash where the harness from the ignition switch plugs in. Start the truck and wiggle the plug and harness.

Re: Problem stalling

Yip, Mikado is right, sounds like the problem.

But, I would test the battery condition voltage as well just to be sure.
