Question Intake gasket questions

I see that a few people have been able to get their intake gasket replaced under warranty.

What are the limitations of the warranty?

My 2000 has 170K on it. I don't think I have a chance.

Re: Intake gasket questions

Nah, no chance. Most dealers won't do anything past 60k.

I had good luck from my dealer.

He did it for half price on my 2001 with 85000 km on it.

I was not the origional owner and bought it used from a small used dealer back in May.

Good Luck

I own a 2000 Montana and will be taking it to the dealer on Monday to see if they will repair my intake gasket. I have 58000 miles on it. It is out of warranty but I have heard some people are having luck since this is such a widespread problem. My quesiton is how hard is it to repalce myself? I have replaced alternators, starters, etc but nothing as big as this. Would it take me an entire weekend? I am sure I would have to remove a few things from the way it looks. Thanks for the help?

I started to change mine last night and finished today. It took me about 8 hours. The biggest problem was dis-assemby. There was so much to remove just to get to the problem area. The good news is it's back together and working great. The parts from the dealer cost $156.00 whick also included new lower bolts that had threadlocker on them and also special sealer. What I did notice upon removal was that the 4 shorter bolts on each end were not tight, almost finger loose. The new gasket set included a tightning sequence and two rounds of torque specs. After reviewing all of the posts on this web site, there were many tips on how to handle this job....Thanks a bunch guys. Now I have dirty finger and a very sore back....lol

Good luck with yours

After GM researched my problem (go figure) they offered a 60/40 split with me paying 60 percent of the bill for a new intake gasket and new head gaskets. My portion will be approximatley 800 dollars . What a rip! At least I got something. Planning to drive it for another year and then selling it. The new leases on many cars are just too cheap for me not to take advantage of now.

What does everyone say when they go to the dealer?

What is the trigger phrase that gets them to take some responsibility?

I would like to do the same, but don't want to back myself into a corner.

The dealer will not offer you anything! You must contact Pontiac for any help at all. The dealer will stick it to you. The number is listed somewhere-message back if you are unable to find it and I will post it (after I find it)
