96 K2500 7.4 with blown catalytic converter???
I recently bought a 96 K2500 burb with 113k miles that was not running. Fixed the engine and now I have blown one of the catalytic converters. The Vortec 7.4 has dual exhaust and dual cats into a single muffler. The blown one makes a terrible rattle anytime the engine is running.
The exhaust system is all original and I am planning on putting on a new high-flow muffler and new cat but need some insights before getting into this. Should I replace both cats at the same time, so I don't end up with the same problem on the other original cat? Do cats become clogged or plugged and should be replaced with new units only? Any muffler suggestions, I've only heard of Flow Master and am not too up on exhaust technology. Planning on buying all the parts and having a local shop weld it all up. Insights and ideas appreciated. Thanks, Spencer |

Re: 96 K2500 7.4 with blown catalytic converter???
Gibson Is A Great Name In Truck Mufflers.....they Cost More, But Worth The Money.
Like I Always Say, Do It Right The First Time And You Wont Have To Worry About It. Personaly, I Would Go With The Dual Exhaust With Dual Cats Right To Dual Mufflers. Always Replace Both Cats If You Are Going With A New System ! Why Spend The Money On Having All The Other New Equipment Welded When Its Just A Matter Of Time Before The Other One Goes And You Have To Have It Torn Apart Again. Love Those Burbs !!!!!!!!! |
