Audi A4

I have thought about buying an 98-00 Audi A4 and wanted to know whats the current value for one and what I should expect to pay on a dealership? Should I get the 1.8T or the V6? Are they good on maintenence and reliability? Is it expensive when needed to be repaired (routine maintanence)? And whats the availablity of parts?

Re: Audi A4

check around on cars.com or autotrader.com.. they've come down on price alot.. pretty reliable as far as my experience.. but they do have their fair share of problems and parts/laboer are not cheap..

My experience looking at the audis is that the 1.8t is built more around the people who want to mod their A4 a little more, buying a higher stage kit for the 1.8 is roughfly about 2k cheaper, plus you get more out of the other upgrades you get (chips, exhaust, intake...) there are also more things to be done to it. The 2.8 all you can really do with it is drop a super charger and the only respectable supercharger is the pes G2 (for the 30v) this is around 5k, that will put you roughfly up to about 295hp. If you dont want to mod it up I personally think that the 2.8 is the better car, based on what kind of driveing I do which is pretty much all freeway so I wanted the bigger engine to give me more excelleration at higher speed, the 1.8 is turbod so if you do alot of stop and go you will get the most out of the 1.8t in that respect. The problems like that other guy said are few and far between. But no too long ago I had some trouble with my AWD system ($1500 to fix) it is a high end car so parts and service aint cheap. If you want to look at upgrade possiblitys for both cars go to pes-tuning.com and lltek.com these are good sites to get a general idea of upgrade cost.

I felt the same way. I kinda like the 1.8t in favor of tuning but Im kinda leaning towards the V6. I know they have a turbocharged v6 all so. Those are available in the S4 but I think they made them for the A4 also. I want the V6 because it has more HP from the start but I wanted the get the 1.8t for turbo upgrades and performance but the problem is the lack of hp stock and after buying the car I want have the 1,000 to 2,000 dollars to blow in a turbo kit and will be stuck with the lack of power for a while. So I would probaly benefit better in the long run with the V6. But I still have not decided. Can anyone tell what they prefer and what is truely better in why? I know the V6 is better if you dont plan to modify it but the I4 is better if you plan to tune it and upgrade turbos.

Right now Im kind of leaning towards the 1.8T again. It makes about 150 hp and the V6 with 5 valves per cylinder(97 and up) only makes around 40 hp more at 190. And seeing to how the only upgarde that will give good results is the G2 super charger which costs 5 grand I might get the 1.8. And you are left helpless for more performance if you have the older V6 made before 97. So the G2 is not all that great unless you have the money and are willing to spend it.

yeah they do make a twin-turbo V6 thats in the S4 and the A6...but not any A4's...because basically thats what makes the difference between the S4 and the A4...but if youd want to mod then go with the 1.8T unless you have an extra 5 grand laying around to supercharge the 2.8...that just my opinion

The 2.8 v6 is worth more than the 1.8t and i payed 5 granf for a 2.8 so i bet if you look lng enoguth u can get a 1.8t for about 6 grand if u want one that is in better condition than mine

it really depends on what intrest rate you can get and how many months you want to finance it for...youre best bet is to get a really low rate of course but then also maybe finance it for as long as possible...i got a rate of 8% and im a twenty year old guy with no credit history at all...so go from there...8% is pretty good so that might help you figure it out for yourself...but heres a loan calculator you can use because i dont know what rate your getting, how long you want to finance it for, or what the total amount is...so have at it http://www.bankrate.com/brm/auto-loan-calculator.asp

oh and taliban...how many miles did your car have on it when you bought it...a 97 for 5 grand...thats cheap

The value of the car also depends on where you live. And it varies. In my area the cars are a little over priced. You'll pay up to 8,000 for a 95 Accord. And you know truefully they are only worth 4 to 6,000. The dealers do that so when you talk them down you've only talked them down to retail value and think you did something and they still made their money/profit. So Im sure I will be paying 13 to 14,000 for a 98 A4. And they are only worth 9-12,000.

ok so i have finally after half a year decided on the audi a4...
i have about 11k-12k to spend.

the tiptronic and quattro is what sold me but here is the problem
i cant decide between 1.8t or v6. This would be my first car and i do want to mod it but i am worried that if i go with the 1.8t that the turbo will go out b/c i heard that on the 1.8t turbo is always the first thing to go once the miles get high. I was wondering what kind of good mods there are for the 1.8t.

The plus about the v6 is that its got more hp and it is prolly more reliable, but it will take me a few years to come up with 5k for supercharger being that i will have just started college and all

about how much would it cost to mod an a4 to s4 standards?
