I'm planning to replace the front shock absorber of my 2001 4-runner.
My first choice is bilstein. When looking at the bilstein Web page I got a little bit confused: they offer the model BE5-2450 for the front, but they mention something about re-installing "the original equipment hardware"... Has anybody some idea about what they mean? I would appreciate any help. BTW, as I said above my first choice is bilstein, but I accept recommendations. Thanks a lot. |

Re: 4runner 2001: Bilstein front shock absorber
It is recommended that you replace shocks in pairs. If you are doing one, do both front with identical shocks.
The comment you are referring to probably means that you must reuse some of the mounting hardware. |

Re: 4runner 2001: Bilstein front shock absorber
I agree 100% with Brian and add replace front and rear shocks if nessasary to replace ....all at same time as your old shocks will wear out your new ones twice as fast having to take up the slack

I've got a 96 4Runner and am also looking at replacing my shocks all the way around with Bilstiens. The front shocks appear to be coilovers so when I replace the shock I will need to use the stock hardware to mount the spring to the shock. I'll need to go to Autozone to borrow a spring compressor to do this. I suspect that the 2001 is the same which is the reason for the reference to the OEM hardware.

Re: 4runner 2001: Bilstein front shock absorber
Yep, i think that's what they mean too. Reuse everything except for the shock. NTB did mine pretty cheap. Give them a call and ask them how much to install shocks.
