1/12th Scale 1957 Chevy Bel-Air (WIP)

There is the body with the choice of rims I will be using. This is a 3 n 1 kit, with stock, street, and strip, and I will be building the stock version. I have to admit tho, the blower on the strip version is AMAZING.

Just to size things up, the 1957Chevy placed next to my 1/25th scale 1969 Camaro.

Engine pieces all layed out

Here is the interior choice, bench seat, 3 spd manual shifter. I wish I could show the detail on the gauges. Simply amazing.

Some shots of the completed engine

Two shots of the same thing, the unpainted chasis. I think the flash makes the pic look better, but detail is harder to see.

The freshly painted chasis, and this is what my hand looked like after:

/edit: Up until I got this model, I was only aware of 3 model skills. Turns out this is Skill 5

Engine looks good. Are you going to make the whole thing black? And you can't somehow sneak the blower on the street version, you know, since it's so cool? I am looking forward to how this turns out, big scale always comes out impressive.

Here's a tip I've discovered: when spraying with cans, I like to hold whatever part I am painting (or whatever it is I am using to hold the part) with my hand, under a plastic grocery bag. It's free (cheaper than a glove) reusable (cheaper than a glove) and you can use it for garbage when you are done (cheaper than a glove). Just an idea, so people won't stop you in the street thinking you came down with some paint disease.

Looks good, but if your going for a stock look, most of the chrome on the engine would be aluminum. The exhaust manifolds would be a dark metallic. Good luck this is a nice kit.

Small update before I goto work

A better shot of the semi-dry chasis (still needs 12hrs before its fully dry) and you can also see the rear axle that I repainted.

The rear axle painted

The rear leafs.

Tomorrow both the chasis and the rear leafs will be getting another coat.

Thanks for the tip, Ill start doing that. What do you mean by the entire thing black? If you mean the chasis, i was thinking of paionting the gas tank steel, any other suggestions.

PS: I have a metallic aluminum color and a plain aluminum color. Is there a specific kind of paint i need for "steel"???

Re: 1/12th Scale 1957 Chevy Bel-Air (WIP)

I was thinking about stripping the chrome off the exhast manifolds and painting them the same color as the exhast, but in the FAQ it doesnt mention how to strip off chrome. Will brake fluid do this?

/edit also is there a tut for back/blackwashing?

Re: 1/12th Scale 1957 Chevy Bel-Air (WIP)

Hey, I just remembered... I have one of these kit's kicking around some where from way back! I think mine might be missing an engine though. I might have to build it as a counter to my normal 1:43rds.

I'll be keeping an eye on this one.
