1990 Blazer barely moves

Hello, I have a 1990 Chevy Blazer that up until recently was running well. A few days ago I got in, put it in gear and the engine revs up really high, but only inches forward or backward. I'm concerned about the torque converter. Does this sound accurate? Any other possibilities I should consider? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry, forgot to mention that the fluid level is ok. That was my first thought; unfortunately, it didn't pan out.

Just to make sure, you checked the level with the truck hot idling in park right?

How would one go about unplugging the transmission converter clutch? I'm fairly proficient with mechanics, but my transmission knowledge is somewhat limited. Thanks.

No, the check engine light has not come on. There are no warning lights on. Of the few guages I do have, the temp. and voltage are ok.

Re: 1990 Blazer barely moves

Hmmm........

Sounds like a torque convertor or the tranny has bit the dust.

Oh, your tranny is vacuum operated.

Check for broken, split vacuum lines going to and from the transmission.

Sounds like a vacuum line fell off.

Re: 1990 Blazer barely moves

Hello me and my son are working on his 1990 4x4 full size blazer. And the same thing thing happened to his. When we went to check the tranny fuild it had some metal shavings on it. So we knew it's biting the dust. We also now have another problem. So if you can answer this ? It seems that when her takes it out it wont go past 45 mph. and there seems to be a miss in it. the check engine light came on, so we put it on the tester and it said it was the o2 and we reset it. then a week went by then it came on again and then said it was the knock sensor. so we cahged that!! and now its acting up again so we placed it on the tester again and now it does not say anything. so we thought it might be the fuel filter so we changed that. And it's doing it again. and the service engine light comes on, the next thing is checking the distributor cap. do you have any suggestions.

follow up

Just a bit of follow up about my Blazer. After looking at it more, it seems that the transmission itself has bit the dust. Unfortunate considering it was just rebuilt 25,000 miles ago.

Thanks for the suggestions.
