Doors Frozen shut... help!

Both my car doors are frozen shut.. Anyone got any suggestions?? I climbed thru the Hatch and tried to open them from the inside but it didn't work.. My next suggestion was to just start the car and let it run for a while, but i don't wanna do all that if its not gonna work... i don't know if will heat up the car enough. Don't wanna have to climb back thru the Hatch to turn off the car.... I'm 5'11 and 220 lbs.. climbing into a 92 eclipse isn't easy... Some suggestions??

Hairdryer and extension cord? I've never lived anywhere where it's gotten that cold, but I've heard of people using a hairdryer.

Re: Doors Frozen shut... help!

Friend from up north said to use De-icer. It's almost like alcohol and just melts the ice. You pour it all the way around the door jam. You can find it at K-mart. I also heard windsheild washing fluid works too.

Re: Doors Frozen shut... help!

i live in wisconsin andi i dont have a problem with door freezing... the problem that i have is the key hole, i put the key in and that sucker wont turn , some times it twists my key before i get the door un locked... i found a new method of turning the key back and forth to beak the ice...works nice..

Re: Doors Frozen shut... help!

use washer fluid or deicer. 97-3clipse you can get little spray cans of deicer with nozzles to jam into the lock to melt the ice. or you can try pouring washer fluid into a really small funnel aimed into the lock lol jk

Yeah, i live in wisconsin too, my car gets the garage for the nights, but when i'm at work, i find my doors lightly frozen, i need to use some force, but its not a problem. I also have a lot of problems with my key not turning, but my passenger side is better, so i always unlock my door on the passenger side, then walk around and open the drivers side door(power locks, hehe). I bought some de-icer, but haven't been able to use it yet.

Hot water freezes faster than cold water, so don't do this until you're ready to go. Don't walk away. Get the door open, then dry the area off.

really, it does. You never learned that 1 in high school science? Put cold water in a cup and hot water in a cup. Put them both in the freezer. Check like every 10 minutes or some junk. The hot water freezes faster b/c it makes steam or something.
