Question focus awd?

Hey,
Does ford ever plan to make the focus a all wheel drive vehicle? It seems a perfect idea. I think that such a car would knock off many competitors in that size class. Just a thought!

Re: focus awd?

Go to Europe
The only AWD Focus I know of is the Focus RS, which is AWD, turbocharged; basically the street version of the WRC Focus which is also AWD and turbo.

Re: focus awd?

Lots more then is most likely practical I'm pretty sure that they're out of production, but if you really want one, you'd have to look around pretty hard, as Ford made a limited number to begin with. You can get Focus RS parts from Ford, but nothing that I know of to convert it to AWD. That would be cool

There are different standards for importing foreign cars. Its on the DOT website (www.dot.gov I think). It is REALLY expensive no matter what.

I don't foresee an AWD Focus here. The Europeans give much more credit to small hatchbacks then we do here in the US. Focus is viewed as a stepping stone car, a car to own before you get a "real car". The success of the Evo and WRX would suggest otherwise, but they also don't have the Mustang to compete with.

Well said! There's still a problem here (though it's beginning to change) with the preception that you can't have performance unless you have 8 cylinders and RWD. Finally, it's changing with the tuner scene coming to America.

The RS was not AWD. It used a standard Euro spec MTX75 trans.

The next gen Focus in Europe is AWD, but that one is now based off of the Volvo platform. Bringing it here would raise the price of the car. Putting it out of the low end segment. Ford would then still need to have a car for that segment.

Bringing us to .... maybe the Fiesta making it's appearance on this side of the pond....

Re: focus awd?

Well also Ford has also slapped in Duratecs into the Focuses of '05 if that sounds interesting enough. I am pretty sure the WRC car has a modded up the ying yang Duratec from what I have read in the past. I could be wrong. I think it was a 2.3 liter engine too.

Re: focus awd?

And the RS is rear wheel drive. Not AWD. It wouldn't be hard to make AWD if you got your hands on an AWD tranny but this would cost a rediculous amount of money. So this is where I say if you want an AWD Ford, get a truck. They're more fun.

Re: focus awd?

You're right Ford Designer, it's not AWD...I was probably posting my dream car
The Focus RS, however, is certainly not RWD. It has a transversely (sp) mounted 2.0 L Duratec, with as Ford Designer mentioned, a transaxle, only found on FWD cars. Thanks for correcting me Ford Designer.

It may be printed on the valve cover.

Many people do not know the 2.0L Zetec in euro trim comes standard with piston squirters. And that Duratec looks just like the standard 2.0L Zetec. So yea, ummm it's a Duratec
