check engine lamp

Hello,

My 95 Jeep GC, 5,2 Orvis was driving fine. After about 20 minutes of driving check engine lamp started to light. Car was still driving normally. Nothing happened only this red lamp lighted. After about 1 hour of stay I started driving and the lamp didn't light. Next day it happened again , after about 20 min. of driving lamp started to light but car was driving normally. Any ideas would be very helpful. Or the only thing I can do is to visit a service ?
regards
Piotr (Poland Europe)

Re: check engine lamp

check the fault codes stored in the Computer.
do this by turning the key ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON - leave on this time, then count the CHECK ENGINE light flashes.
It will flash double digit codes with a short pause in between digits and a long pause in between each code.

Example: (| = 1 CHECK ENGINE light flash)

| pause | | = 12,

pause pause pause pause pause

| | | | | pause | | | | | = 55,

code 12 - Power to PCM was lost within the last 50 ignition cycles. Battery was disconnected.

code 55 - End of falt codes.

when you get the codes post them here and I or someone else will give you the meaning of the codes you get.

I dont' have the grand cherokee with the v8, but you may be able to get the codes using the key on/off method, try to do it when the check engine light is on. Have pen and paper ready, then turn key to on then off then on then off then finally on again, the check engine light will start to flash then pause then flash again. Count the number of flashes then pause then flashes. For example, turn key on, then off , then on then off, then on, the light flashes 2 times, pause, then one flash, then pause, then 5 flashes, pause, then five more flashes, then starts to repeat itself. This would tell you that you have a code 21 and a code 55 stored in the computer. Code 55 means that you have finished the test. After you come up with your codes, we can tell you what each one is for, good luck.

Re: check engine lamp

CODE 32 - An open or shorted condition detected in the EGR solenoid circuit possible air/fuel ratio imbalance not detected during diagnosis.

Check the EGR Valve Transducer (control unit). it is prolly sticking open and need to be replaced.

and YES this (code 32) is the reason you CHECK ENGINE light comes on.

code 12 - Battery was disconnected within the last 50 ignition cycles.
code 55 - End of fault codes.

Hello,

I changed EGR Valve Transducer then reset the computer then I drove for about one hour. No check engine light.
By the way : Is it true that I should see that movement indicator in EGR valve moves when engine gets about 2000 rpm ?
regards and thanks for help

Re: check engine lamp

well I never heard of that, I know that the EGR transducer is open to recirculate the exhaust gas back into the engine, to help warm the engine and lower the carbon monoxide exhaust while the engine is warming - cold engine doesn't burn fuel as effiecient as a warm engine.
