Mustang GT, 3G Eclipse meet their maker... The Panda

Welcome back, have fun with your brother? Didn't think so...

So, I was out hanging with my buddy 'Titan Joe' tonight. We call him that cause he drives a Titan... betcha woulda never figured that out. Just doing the usual bullshit sessions. You know how it is with your buds.

1:30am, currently it is 53 degrees and perfectly clear. Ahh good stuff. Warm the car up, roll onto the freeway... hit 80mph at the end of the on ramp. Slip into 5th gear and put myself into mental cruise control.

Gliding along at about 75mph, boost controler is reading back to me 12psi. Turbotimer is doing its... timing thing.. its green and pretty so I like to look at it. I like to see how low I can get it while driving, meaning driving uber conservative.

The freeway just had a slight dip... so about a mile back you couldn't see traffic behind you cause of the slight 'hill'. Then I quickly see a set of headlights pop over the crest and come charging down the freeway towards me. ah haaa I think.

I start to roll on the gas in 5th just a hair, to decrease some vacuum as shown on the boost gauge... just before the turbo starts to pull. My car sounds like a semi-truck in 5th gear when you're just passing cars. All you hear is turbo spool, especially if you're going up a long incline.

I wait for him to get within 5 or so car lenghts, and I bury the pedal. Boost comes on, and I match his pace. This Mustang GT convertible, like a 96-97ish. His momentem carries him to just ahead of me while I build up speed. At about 100, I start to pull ahead... I let off at 120 indicated. He's 5-6 lengths back. I giggle like a school girl who just got a gold star on her report on Pony's.

I let off, he keeps on cruising by at his pace. Not really a flyby. I don't think he cared that I was faster. Whatever, I had my fun. Yay me.

So, now I'm juiced up. I was over 100mph... now I"m ready to rock n roll some more.


And of course about a minute later this 3rd gen Eclipse comes blitzin down the freeway. I let him pass, and figure... "what the fuck... lets play." I cruise on past him at maybe 10mph faster than him. Just to tick him off.

Now I'm buzzing along at 90mph-ish. He speeds up and I keep him at my rear quarter. Just to cheese him off some more. Baiting him. "C'mon, if you want ahead of me. I'm gonna make you work for it!"

After about 20 seconds of him realising that I was no push over. He drops a gear and guns it. "Oh shit, he's going for it! hehehe man what an idiot... ok... lets give him half throttle..."

So half throttle I give, and he starts to fall back.. back... back... 115 indicated. I let off, start making my way over to get off.

"ahh, well maybe he's not an idiot. He doesn't know I'm turbo'd... or modified... I give him a A for effort."

Start to get off the freeway, I usually always get off an exit before my actual street. The way I go, allows me to cruise for about a mile to let the motor cool down and what not. And I avoid a camera controlled light. I avoid those like the plague.


I start my lazy heel-toe'ing cause this off ramp warrants no heavy braking. You just basically coast off at your liesure. Car belches a small poofy flame.. I know cause I saw the flash on the walls of the off ramp. I hope he saw the flame... maybe he'll realise I wasn't some stock 240z... so he doesn't go home and beat his old lady like an old hound dog cause he lost to some shit box.

Yay me


Nothing exciting. Bleh... I wanna race a Vette.

Had something similar happen to me. Kinda.

I was cruising along the interstate at 4 am. I'm just cruising along at 75 in 5th gear when I come up behind a newish Sunfire doing about 70. As I move into the right lane to pass him I immdiately know he's gonna try to race me. Why, you ask? Because I see he's got a few green neons in his cabin.

Well as I start passing him he floors it when his nose is at my door. So, I decide to humor him, and I floor it also. Now, bear in mind that 5th is a slow gear to start with, and I'm trying to accelerate while in the low-mid RPM range. Needless to say, I slowly start picking up speed. But it's enough to stop his gain. I kept going until I hit 100, then I shut it down. I don't have a radar detector, and the state troopers love to hide in the median.

Well he flys off, and stays ahead of me, until we get into my town. At that point I'm passing him, yet again. And yet again he tries to race me. But this time I don't feel like being nice. So I downshift into 4th, and immediately pull 3-4 car lengths on him.

But hey, if you ever do get the chance to just race a lightly modded Z28, SS, then you would know where you stand, id say a good 3-5 cars in front for you.

I've messed with a SS Camaro once, wasn't much but I got him through 2nd gear pretty harsh.

Once he saw me leaving him he stopped playing.
