Question Sound Dragging? Anyone heard of it!?!?!

So i have heard about this thing from my cousin where you take a car and put a huge sound system in it... like the whole car is packed. You place a decible reader in the car and start the car (you have to get an automatic start otherwise it can kill you supposedly??? *not sure about this at all*) then you blast the sound as loud as possible... apparently they are getting up into the 700 decible range (which is insane cause at 95 decibles your brain explodes) but yea... i know nothing about this does any oneelse know?

Also... are there people from houston, texas in here?

Noise can harm humans. Loud and unpleasant sounds can damage your hearing. Noise pollution can cause hearing loss, pain, and stress. Noise is unwanted sounds. Any decibel reading at 85 dBs or above can damage hearing. Noise regulation laws exist to protect workers and should be followed in homes to protect humans, pets, and other wildlife from damage to their physical and social well-being. Builders can use insulated walls and acoustical ceilings to reduce sounds. they can seal cracks located on the inside and outside of buildings to reduce noise from the outside. Special window panes, drapes, carpets, and thicker doors will also keep unwanted sounds out.http://www.bucconeer.worldcon.org/contest/2002e_f2.htm

ha... it atleast harms you... soo yea

hitting in the 700db range.....95db killing you......this is a classic

yes there are dB drags, I wasn't aware of anyone into audio who DIDN'T know about it. But anyway, the highest possible dB level in our atmosphere is around 195, the top competitors are in the high 170's right now, 150 is enough to stop your heart, 140 causes pain in your ears, and most decent systems are around 130.

Re: Sound Dragging? Anyone heard of it!?!?!

So my heart should be stoped??? I think it would take mid 160's to so that because I've been in several cars the are doing mid 150's. One of them was a daily and I would ride around in it all the time with no problems other then the fact I couldn't hear when I got out and my ears would ring for a day afterwards.

wow .... 700 dB on a logrithmic scale, that's truly unfathomable. The 85 dB stuff is "A" weighted ... means basically no bass. Car stereo comps use no weighting, so you are mostly measuring bass output

Re: Sound Dragging? Anyone heard of it!?!?!

haha i was thinkin about that.. if 95 db made your brain explode.. then what would it take to produce and retain 700 db inside of a car.. i know its not possible to get that loud.. but still im gonna put about 70 solo X 18s, and like 70 5 killowatt amps and put them im an enourmous semi trailer that is covered in titanium and see what i can do (haha dont check my figures i just threw them out there im playin)

it all depends on the frequency being played and the person in question, but from what I hear, the pressures generated at 150+dB can screw up your nervous system enough to stop your heart. It probably wouldn't happen to a healthy person though, because like you, I know people who have been in 150dB cars and not had a problem with their heart.

Re: Sound Dragging? Anyone heard of it!?!?!

just out of curiosity.. the thing that first made me get into car audio.. it was like 4 years ago but i was at a custom car show.. and a guy had like 6 jl audio 10s (didnt know what model of course i was totally ignorant..) but they were in a blazer and i remember i stuck my head in the drivers side windows and i immediately got really dizzy and my eyes started watering like hell. about what db does it take for this?

Re: Sound Dragging? Anyone heard of it!?!?!

140's probably, my brahma can do that if I decide to turn it up, but I only do that when friends want to hear the "system", and by "system" they really mean the sub and nothing else.
