Unhappy 91 Passat Rattling

Ive driven this car for a while since ive gotten it and I just started to notice a rattling sound under the car. I looked under the car to pinpoint where the sound is comming from...its not towards the engine or rear of the car but in the middle...i hear it when im idling and accelerating......it sounds like my muffler is moving around or something. Any Ideas?

It maybe your Catalytic Converter rattling ,or else the exhaust could be loose-if it is the Cat,chances are it'll need replacing as they brake down internally.

Sounds like the same thing that I've experienced. The hangers for the exhaust system seem to be notorious for breaking off. Make sure that you inspect the entire exhaust system for play. I had the whole exhaust system replaced from the front pipe back and I'll tell you that the muffler shop that did mine did not make sure that the exhaust piping was hung in a satisfactory manor. With that said, you may find the same response from a professional, however, you may not. I used a heavy gauge picture hanging wire to correct the problem that I had and it seems to be working. You would most likely be the best judge in what needs to be done and how to do it. I know that it is late in the forum but I hope that this is somewhat of a help.
