Lost Female
When I am idle, my car is making a loud purring noise. There is no squealing, just loud purring. When I push on the gas it goes away for about a second, but then comes back.. what is this? I took it into the mechanic, but he said he couldnt hear anything. And now the "check engine" light is on. So now I have to pay to have them diagnose why the light is on, even though I told them something was wrong, and they didnt fix it.
Is there anything I should do to try to make the car sound better? Or to get the light off? Fill any fuels, change anything? I am 20 and know nothing about cars, but I am willing to learn. I am tired of spending my money when I can fix it myself..

or bring it to an autozone and they will check the codes for free and tell you what is wrong. and again i am not sure what the purring sound could be.

autozone does not check it for free i work there. it costs $170.00 deposit fully refundable. but the purring you hear is the belt tensioner bearing going bad. visually check it if you can move it with your hand replace it. it is located on the drivebelt on the left side in the center.

Yes I second that... lol I had my codes checked for free... he must be just scamming people out of money. that come in to have them checked.

the next time you go to autzone ask how the loan a tool program works no u know what just look at the signs on the window u know the fine print on the bottom.. and im not the scammer it takes more time to rent the tool to you and take your money then have to return it to u 20 minutes later so thats why they walk out there and do it and if something comes up bad where u gonna go its called buisness...haha!!!!
