Angry auto trans...

its the same 97 jeep wrangler 4 cylc auto with 98k that ive posted 78 times before.... The trans was leaking a little bit, then it started slipping so i added more fluid(this all happend in a few days). When starting from a stop you had to shift from drive to 2nd to get it to engage and go. I told my dad not to really drive it but he still did............10 minutes later he called and said come get me it died. apparently he started at a light and it wouldnt go so he coasted to a parking lot and the engine died. I went back tonight alone, and started the jeep it seemed to make a light knock noise and i shifted it into reverse and got no reaction. I then shifted to park and the engine died......What do we do now... do we drive it to a repair shop? any thoughts on what is wrong......... its a MONEY PIT

Re: auto trans...

My first thought is that it's an automatic. Heh..

Seriously though, it sounds like there are issues with the transmission. You may want to look at a rebuild; if it wasn't going into gear at all, there's a serious problem (assuming the shifter is ok).

Overfilling an auto trans is a bad idea, as there may be excess pressure within the transmission. How many miles are on the Jeep?

Re: auto trans...

Sounds bad, and like it's time for a reputable transmission shop.

Sounds like this Jeep was put through the ringer before you ever got hold of it, and now you've got somebody else's repairs to do. But once you get them done, you'll have a good-as-new Jeep and won't have to worry about the stuff you're fixing again.
