Transmission Problems

I just picked up my 99' Spyder GS-T, I am noticing some roughness in the shifting, a lot of times I have to double clutch, not sure why. Also sometimes once the car is already running and I am at a complete stop and try to put it in reverse it grinds when I go for it, so I have to roll forward a little bit then try again? Am I doing something wrong? or should I take it somewhere?

Try replacing the gear box oil. Your clutch could also be bad? And about the griding your gear if your rolling a littla already while your trying to put it in to reverse it will do that. Try stopping on a flat road then try to put it in reverse if it still does that im not sure.

Whats the best oil for a manual tranny? I heard synthetic tranny oil is actually not good. Should i go the dodge dealer and buy the mpar factory oil, or is there something better? I was wondering if lucas oil had anything good, i like there stuff

Re: Transmission Problems

BG Synchroshift is one of the best gear oils to use. You can use 75-90 weight. You can get GL5 from walmart or some other store for cheap but after time it has an additive that corrodes the brass synchros. GL4 is the good stuff but it is expensive and can only be bought at the dealership. Very expensive if you have them change it.

Lucas Gear oil is awesome, I use it in my tranny and you can either run it straight or mix it with another tranny fluid.

Re: Transmission Problems

Yes you can run lucas in your engine to but they make specific oil for that. You also wouldnt want to run a lot of it just because it is thick and it would be harder to go through all the little oil ports and the turbo.

Re: Transmission Problems

yeah i ruined 2 engines because of that lucas oil stabilizer. it's too thick that it can't get up to the head and it melted my camshafts right to the head, TWICE! i'm never using that shit again.

Re: Transmission Problems

You were probably using the wrong stuff... They have certain thicknesses for certain oil applications. I use it, and have in all of my cars and have never had a problem with it. Make sure you mix it correctly and are using the right weight oil for your application.
