remote control car or truck?

sorry all im sure u get these ?s alot. Im not any genius with cars or anything like that so please talk in dummy language to me. Ok heres the scoop with me i want to get a remote control car or truck. Never owning anything but a umm k-mart car doesnt do any good when im trying to get into the hobby. I was thinking i should get a truck, gas powered, something that will speed up pretty quick too.(40+mph) Hopeing to be able to do alot with it also like change the body upgrade to better equipment and what ever else can be done. I have been looking on ebay and dont want to get umm scamed with something that doesnt do what i want. So thought it be best if i got into a forum and ask some ?s.

1.) Is this not the forum i want to be in and 2nd if not where is the one i want to be in?

2.) I want the veichle to work off road along with on road should i get a car or truck, or do the both run off road?

3.) What is the recomemed brands that are good?

4.) what is the range of speed for electic and gas veichles?

5.) what kind of maintance is there for the gas veichles and how often preformed?

6.) Seeing as the biggest hill i got is a curb to get out of my driveway will is make a difference in picking out a veichle?

7.) Where is few good places to look at veichles for an idea on price, as well as what is going on? (web sites preffered)

8.) If i missed any ?s please let me know that u think are important?

I have been looking on ebay at some going prices and they seem way high about 1600-700 for something that even sounds good.

Re: remote control car or truck?

Since you are just starting off with real RC, do not get a nitro RC to start with. I have ran RC's for 12 years, and anyone else that has run RC's half the time I have can tell you start with electric.

1. This is exactly where you want to be.

2. You can run trucks on road, but they arent as fast. The trucks have different drivetrains and suspension. If you want to do ramps, get a rally truck. If you want to just race on dirt, look at a rally car (some can me tricky to find).

3. Tamiya, HPI, Schumacher, Team Associated, Team Losi, Traxxas, are some that I can think of off the top of my head.

4. Electric and Nitro can go the same speed, it just depends on your set up. After several modifications, I can hit 50-60MPH with my Schumacher on road set up.

5. Lots of maintence, disassembly, reassembly, so on and so forth. Should be performed after every run.

6. Depends, if you put a cardboard ramp there, you're fine with anything.

7. www.towerhobbies.com, www.hpi.com, www.racingcars.com, www.stormerhobbies.com, www.tamiya.com, www.google.com, as well as your local hobby shop.

8. Do not get a nitro to start with. I have run nitros, I have run electrics. Nitro's are just a noisy pain in the ass. In all my 12 years of RC, I have owned 15+ Electrics, one nitro that I got rid of about 2 months after recieving it.

9. A good RC, RTR (Ready To Run), costs about $150-$300. Kits are less expensive, but then you spend $150 on electronics so it can run.

Hope that helped! Feel free to ask more questions.
