engin cuts out!

I have a 96 tsi awd and now all of a sudden it started cutting out on full throttle at about 4k -4.5k rpm's and the it is fine. It is not a misfire really it is just like the engine stops for a split second and then takes off where it was. When it does this it jerks really bad. Thanks for any help

Re: engin cuts out!

Your getting a mild fuel cut... Take it easy on boost right now cause it is colder out, and the air is more dense!

Re: engin cuts out!

Found out the problem. It was definately fuel cut like Jake said. The main problem was the fuel pump needed to be replaced. Runs like new now.

Re: engin cuts out!

ok just got back from a ride and it did it really bad again and threw a code. the code was p1103 and said something about air and fuel. I have an aftermarket pressure regulator, does that mean I should have a different mass air meter? Thanks again.

Re: engin cuts out!

the actual code is a P1103 and it says turbocharger wastegate actuator malfunction, maybe that will help.

Re: engin cuts out!

Yeah, you are hitting fuel cut, it says your wastegate actuator is malfunctioning when really you have you MBC set for your turbo to boost too much for the fuel system to keep up. There for the ECU reads it as the wastegate isnt opening cause it is seeing too much boost. Turn you MBC down so its not boosting as high. Also you might want to do a boost leak test.

Re: engin cuts out!

should you be able to move the lever or rod on the wastegate? I just adjusted my mbc all the way out and still got up to 25 psi. Could the wastegate be locked or am I totally on the wrong direction.

Re: engin cuts out!

Is your MBC hooked up backwards? The actuator arm on the WG is hard as hell to move by hand. It can be done but its very hard! Depending on how you have your vacuum lines run to the MBC you might want to see if they are hooked up wrong. This is a common mistake. Just remember that the vacuum line that runs to the WG comes off the side of the MBC. The line that comes off the manifold/compressor housing/LICP should hook into the nipple directly across from the adjustment screw. Then with the screw backed all the way out you should read around 12-14psi tops.

If that doesnt help run the vacuum line straight from the compressor housing on the turbo to the wastegate actuator.
