I have recently bought a 96 Suburban K2500 for towing. I really like it, but there is one design feature I absolutely do not like at all....the inside dome light shut-off delay.
When I pull the key, lock, and leave the vehicle the inside lights stay on for what I believe to be an excess amount of time. It's so long that I end up walking away from the vehicle and loosing sight of it while it's sitting there with the dome lights still on, which I don't like at all. Twice I manually had the dome on and accidentally walked away not realizing this mistake because I thought it was the extended delay circuit...good thing my battery was able to recover from this deep drain, but now I've had enough of this feature. I would like the delay time to be reduced to only 5-7 seconds, so I always witness the lights going off while I am still at the vehicle. Does anyone know the whereabouts of this delay circuit and it can be tweaked to shorten the length of delay time before turning the lights off? (Perhaps the turning of a specific variable-resistor would quickly solve this problem) If not, what about disabling it altogether, going back to the good old fashion days of when the doors are closed the inside lights turn off. THEN if they stay on you instantly know you left the manual over-ride switch on...(bone-head : ) Ideas and insights are appreciated. Thanks, Thanks, Spencer |

Re: Dome light delay shut off blues/ tweak time?
OK, try this. The Interior lamp control module is located under the center of the instrument panel, according to my '98 service manual. Look for 5 wires. pink, gray, orange, black & white. Remove the plug from the module and jumper the orange & white wires through the plug. I haven't tried it, but it looks like it will work from the schematics. You'll lose some stuff by not having the module hooked up, so you'll have to decide what you want.............Steve

Before you do this, remove the ground cable at the battery as there is 12 volts at the orange wire at all times!!!! Last edited by 777stickman; 12-21-2004 at 11:57 AM. |
