How do I store a new engine

I am thinking of buying a 6.0l engine. However, I don't want to install it until my warranty on the truck runs out. The warranty is good for another 3 yrs. The engine I am looking at is brand new, never been used or ran, it is still in the crate. Is there anything special I need to do to store the engine for 3yrs? Will this hurt the engine? What would I have to do to prep the enigine once I am ready to install it?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

What are you going to do if you total your truck between then and now?

If it's a great deal, maybe it makes sense. You'll probably lose your warranty on the new engine, if any. I'd "fog" the cylinders, put the plugs back in, and spray some rust preventative on bare metal parts (not WD-40) and wrap it in a plastic bag like the machine shops do around here for freshly machined cranks, etc. I'd do the normal stuff you'd always do when installing
