UPDATE:MY 2000 Taurus won't start

Ok.... this is what the problem was...sorry, but know won wins the prize on this one...after scratching our heads 3 full days on this we decided we had to take it in to the shop. We tried everything we knew and all of your suggestions. We could always give them one of our boys in trade for their services, right? They came and chain towed my car to town for $25.00 then called me and wanted the other set of keys, thinking that the "chip" in the key(I did read other ppl had that trouble) they had was bad...got them the other set and nope that key didn't work either. So, he asked me about my "after market" secuity device I had on my car???? I said I don't have one....when I bought my car they told me it had a flashing light in it but it was really nothing just a "deturant" against theft? Well, the nice guy named John called me and said he followed the wire off of the blinking light (red blinking light above the hood release lever) and it brought him to a black box about 2 1/2" x 2". On it it says SABRE Automotive Security. He asked if he could remove it and see if the car would start. Of course, I said yes...hell didn't even know it was there. He did and the car started right up. Bill states: Labor-Diag no start, found faulty after market security system. Removed system and returned wiring to stock. Labor 2.5 hrs. $110.00 Tow $25.00 total bill $143.10 tax included. I didn't think that was so bad considering all of the other things that could have been alot higher priced. My husband called our local Ford dealer, the one I got the car from and the guy I bought it from said "oh yeah..I guess that did have the system on it." Well, that just shows you he didn't know squat about what he had told me to begin with. My car had been a program car with no previous owners so we could not figure out how....an "after market" system was put on my car if we didn't do it. So anyway...put that in your archives for future refference. I am sorry to rack everyones brains on this "issue". Take it as a learning experience, as I will. Someday you might look like a "genius " pulling that one out of your a$$...heehee. But charge way more for that valuble information. Have a great holiday everyone and I will be back if I ever need you again, I know where you live!

I would make the dealer pay for the bill. What a bunch of BS. At least you got your car back and it wasn't anything serious.

A word of advice: If you are buying a "claimed" "program" car (I bought two), check with CARFAX its history (both ownership and accident will be provided) before you give them any money. You'll need the car's VIN, and will have to pay for this service. You should know: They'll say ANYTHING to make a sale.

This sounds like what is wrong with my car. I took mine to the my mechanic and he asked me if I removed an alarm system from the car. Because he found a wire that was soldered to the firewall but went no where. I told him he could removed it but he could not get the car start to move it into the garage. Needless to say my car is still not working. I am going to print this off and show him what your problem was and see if this could be my problem too.

Thank you for sharing.
