Question pushbutton 4wd not working

switch lights up momentarily when key is turned on. no lights or sound at all when pushed. acts like bad wire. i tested switch, appears fine. is there a way to test wiring under hood? I'm not getting voltage to wire that runs over near battery, that connects to vacuum line, near big black ball. yet, i'm getting voltage at the other end of the wire, where it connects, drivers side.
I've unplugged battery, touched pos. terminal to engine, removed fuse, all the things i've read.
i'm hoping its not the expensive encoder motor i've read about, my symptoms seem a bit different. my light does not blink.
is there a relay under the dash that could cause a problem?

Re: pushbutton 4wd not working

Don't ground out the cables like that.

check the 4x4 relay in the glove compartment.

thanks for the help with the brakes and the 4wd. i feel better about the brake problem, but i took apart the dash on the glove box side, and could not locate the 4wd relay. Mine is a 1994 gmc jimmy, is the relay located in a diff. spot in this rig?
sweet blazer, by the way.
thanks again

Same issue

I had the same problem a while back. Disconnect the batery for a few then reconnect it. That's all it was for me...

Hope this helps.

well, i broke down and took it to a mechanic. turns out it was a bad wire at the encoder motor. took him about 2 hrs to fix it. could be worse, i guess.

Re: pushbutton 4wd not working

When you press the 4hi button, does it flash or anything, is there any clicking noises at all from the glove compartment?
