96 Suburban leaking oil at oil filter
I have a 96 Suburban 2500 7.4 4x4 and it is leaking oil around the oil filter housing. There are two square headed bolts that bolt oil filter housing to the engine. Has anyone ran across this leak before? I thought a 3/8 inch drive head would fit the bolts but it does not. Does anyone know what the size is? Is there a gaset under there? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

oil leak
There is a gasket for the oil filter mount, that is probably all that is wrong. I dont know what size the bolts are though.

Bolt will be metric, probably 10mm

Re: 96 Suburban leaking oil at oil filter
A lot of times when the filter gets too hot the gasket melts and sticks to the block. Just take a gasket scraper or some light sand paper and smooth it out. Then torque the new filter down good.

Make sure it is not the rear of the Intake Manifold leaking. With the orange type antifreeze it may look like engie oil. This is very common and will need a intake manifold reseal..
