Ticking Noise

Just curious. Does this engine generally make a lot of ticking noise (best description would be lifter noise?)? Can only hear it when standing in front of the vehicle. I've had such bad luck with cars in the past several years that any noise makes me nervous.

engine noise

I notice no extra noise from engine, some operating noise is expected from any functioning engine. No loud ticking only belt noise etc. Check engine oil possibly over fill or under fill, both have an efect on lifter noise.

Re: Ticking Noise

You were right. The noise was caused by overfill. I siphoned some oil out and now no noise (except of course normal operating sounds). Should this have any long term effect on the engine? I siphoned out more than 1/4 quart but less than 1/2 quart.

It won't have any long term effect as long as you properly refill each time, it will have an effect on mileage with excess oil ( foam oil excessivly ?). Glad to hear of your success with your Aveo in snow, I am from Western NY and if at home will have to fight the snow with the car. Presently I am in Florida for the winter. I am presently getting 32 MPG with auto transmission in mixed driving, guess the engine is breaking in (2100mi).
