Maintenance Light won't go out.

My 1989 Dodge 1/2 tonne pickup has the maintenance required light on and I can not figure out how to get it to turn off. Any suggestions, besides removing the bulb or disconnecting the battery?

Re: Maintenance Light won't go out.

A common problem is a loose gas cap(not sure if 89 had it), but with the vehicle off, try taking it off then putting back on tightly.

Disconnecting the battery is the best way to reset that code; hold the disconnected terminal to the other terminal for about 30 seconds. After doing so, the light should go out. If it comes back on, then more investigation's needed.

So it comes on immediately when you start the vehicle? I don't know what that would be; someone else on the forum may have an idea; it may be time to visit the repair shop for some diagnostics.

Well of course. The truck needs mechanical attention, that's what the light is for. The way you get it to go out is by fixing what is wrong with it.

Re: Maintenance Light won't go out.

Its not anything mechanical. Some models are equppied at 60,000, 82,500, and or 120,000 to check your smog equipment and sensors. At that time your supposed to replace EGR valve, clean the EGR passage, and replace the PCV valve. Then you will need the DRBII tool to resetthe EMR light.
Hope this helps and is not too late.
