suspension on a 91 z28

I just recently purchased a '91 z28 350 tpi, and i've noticed that it rides a LOT more rough than other camaros that I have ridden in. I hit the smallest bump and its pretty bad. I know camaros arent meant for a smooth ride...but I was wondering if I need to replace the rear shocks, and if it would be the struts...also if it was the struts how much would it be to replace them and if its not the shocks or struts, what else could it be.

Thanks.

Re: suspension on a 91 z28

I would just go ahead and change your shocks and struts, that will definetly help your ride quality, you probably still got the factory shocks and struts, well as price goes you can spend from 150 bucks all the way to up to 800 for some bliesteins shocks

Re: suspension on a 91 z28

there is nothing wrong with your suspention. the Z28 suspension was much stiffer than the other camaros, and its a dream at high speeds on the highway where it was designed to shine. i was driving twisty mountain roads at over 100mph and doing it one handed in my 89 IROC. when shocks go bad, you dont get stiffer rides, you feel like your on springs going bouncy bouncy, because you are. when the shocks go bad, the springs are all that support the car, and everything is alot softer, but your constantly going up and down. you never level off.

if you dont like the ride, thats a different story. you could always get a set of shocks off of a lower level camaro like an RS or something. or you could try edelbrocks IAS shocks. ive heard they are supposed to be the best of both worlds. smooth ride, and firm handling.

Re: suspension on a 91 z28

Did the Z28 and the Rs camaro in the third gen years use the same suspension set up ? Mine rid hella hard..also the lower profile the tire = the rougher the ride.

yeah, i ride TERRIBLE, i mean i've rode in a 95 z28 and another 91 z28, and i ride a lot more rough, i DO have low profile tires, which i know will create a more rough ride, but i mean im going down a normal highway and its like everyone of those bumps are like railroad tracks lol. my sway bar is fucked up, but i doubt that has nething to do with it. I Just wish i knew the problem, and would those bilstean(sp.) shocks provide a more smooth ride?
