Re: gas gauge needle stuck??

Actually, i have a 97 LS and am currently having the same problem, but mine doesn't stick. the other day it said i was almost empty, went to the gas station and it took $4 to fill it. it's doing the same thing now but reading 1/2 tank when i know it's full. Anybody else???

Another of the known items that plague '97 Blazers which GM won't fix.(do a search on this site, you'll find many posts on this subject).

The sending unit is faulty on the fuel pump.
For this particular model, the sending unit and the fuel pump are one unit, you can't get just the sending unit. It'll run about $300 or more for a pump from the local auto parts store, $380 from a Chevy dealer.
The pump is inside the fuel tank, so figure a good 3 hours of labor to have it replaced.

My personal opinion, don't use a bone yard pump and/or tank. You'll be taking a chance at having the same problem.

Re: gas gauge needle stuck??

Fuel Sending unit is faulty.

Or Ignition switch in the steering column is bad.

Re: gas gauge needle stuck??

Re: gas gauge needle stuck??

Very likely a sending unit in the tank. There is a TSB on this with a replacement kit for the sending unit only, but the kit is about $100. If your Blazer has higher mileage, say 80K, it wouldn't hurt to replace the whole unit as those pumps aren't too reliable either.

Re: gas gauge needle stuck??

You would have to probe the sending unit to see if it is getting the proper voltage.

Its' ground could be not making a good contact either.

Do you have a part number for this, and/or a link to the TSB?

GM and Auto Zone,Napa,Checkers, etc. only carry the fuel pump-sending unit as an integral assembly.
The sending unit alone isn't available at any of these places.
Thanks,
Mike

This is from GM TSB # 83-83-07 back in March 98. For the Blazer in 97 the fuel lever sender is PN 25314231. Price at www.gmpartsdirect.com is now $60 plus their high shipping. About $120 at dealer price so I'd sure shop around. There are sender kits for about all the 97/98 GM vehicles too.

Re: gas gauge needle stuck??

i have had my 97 blazer for 5 years now. the gas guage has never worked. I reset the trip odometer evry time i fill up and when i get around 250 i know i need to get gas soon. i've had the same problem on every chevy i have owned (87 Blazer, 94 Corsica) I don't think iwould know how to act with a fuel gauge that actually worked.
I don't think the Ignition switch would cause this but it being a 97 blazer, i would go ahead and replace it any way. save you some headaches later
Good Luck
