heater fan jammed?

Wonder if someone can help me out with this...

Since the summertime the heater fan hasn't worked. speeds 1-4 you get nothing, at 5 I get this ungodly noise and bits and pieces of "stuff" thrown out through the heater vents. Went to the dealer since it was under warrentee and he says it's clogged with debris and won't touch it.

So how hard is it to get to the heater fan? it's freakin cold out now and would like my defrosters to work!

I also notice I have that mysterious puddle of water in the passenger seat when it rains. I wonder if the 2 are connected in some way.

If your car is in warranty, then they HAVE TO fix it, but if you want to do it yourself it shouldn't be too hard. Pull apart your dash and get to your fan. Just remove the whole fan and clean out the debris. You should also get an air compressor and blow the debris out of your vent tubing. If you don't know how to do it then I would suggest buying a haynes or a chiltons manual.

I got the haynes book a while back but it was a little oblivious when it came to removing the dash panel. I know there are 2 snaps in the front but it's being held up somewhere else. there a plastic plug in the center of the panel where it seems to be stuck, does this screw out or do I pry it off with a screwdriver?

that plastic panel just pops out, its 1 clip holding it after the 2 front tabs

What year is your Monte?

I get the puddle of water on the passenger floor when it rains too. I have an '88 SS. Also, a friend of mine has the same problem in her '86. It's a problem with a leak in winshield seal or A/C heater box, T-Top or door weather strip seal.
