Engine temperature ?

Does anyone know what temp. thermostat goes in a 97 with a 4.3l v-6?

Mine ran at about 165 when I bought it a year ago. I thought it seemed low so I put in a new one. Same thing, so I replaced the temp. sending unit. Nothing changed.

I was just wondering if they gave me the wrong one or something.

Re: Engine temperature ?

not exactly sure about a 97 blazer but I have a 92 with V6 4.3L and my temp runs about 210. I had it tested and found out my gauge is off by 10 degrees. So My truck normally runs around 200.

Thanks for the reply crazys

I asked at O'Reilly's tonight while trying to pickup a ignition switch...which they didnt have. The temp. is 195 degrees. I picked up another thermostat and will install it Sunday.

I Have a 165 Degree unit in mine, and it runs about that temp.

The factory unit was 185 Degrees. Before replacing my original unit, it always used to open at about 200 and close well below 150. As I was driving, I could watch the gauge move up and down quite rapidly. With the 165 degree unit, it gets up to 165 and steadily stays there.

Factory is 192.

Running a 165 stat in our trucks is just a killer for our fuel economy.

180 is the lowest you should ever go.

On my '96 4.3L V-6:

Factory was 192 deg.

Owners manual says replace w/ 195 deg.

Don't go below 180 deg., it'll kill your fuel economy.
